Dance Recital 2011

Sam just had her annual Dance Recital in May. This year she only performed 2 dances due to my friend and dance teacher being pregnant. My friend Trisha has been teaching dance for years now. Sam has been in her class for 4 years. Trisha does an awesome job with choreography and costumes. She does everything herself!!! Her mother Sally and I are in charge of costumes every year. We have to dress all the girls, do potty breaks and mop water that has been spilled on the floor. It gets pretty crazy but I love helping out every year.

I am way behind in blogging due to craziness. I started my daycare business again and it is baseball season, dance lessons and we are moving. I thought I would just put a variety of pics from the last six months. I hope I can get keep this up and stay on track with my blogging. In the past six months we celebrated a new year, Adam's baseball team won the championship, Sam had an awesome dance recital and we have done some major packing for our move.

Disneyland started off great! Then while waiting for The World of Color to start it started to rain. Of course I forgot my beanie at home and I had to wear my husbands jacket because it had a hood. My poor husband stood in the rain for 2 hrs soaking wet.....he was a trooper. The World of Color was awesome and well worth the wait. We were so ready to go home after the show. I was already 10pm and past my bedtime..haha.

My little baby turned 8! I can't believe how much she has grown from a little 5lb preemie to a big girl. Since her birthday was right after Thanksgiving, we decided to have a little cake. We were burned out on sweets from pumpkin pie and cheesecake. We had plans to take the kids to Disneyland on her birthday so we celebrated the day before. I had bought her the American Girl doll Lanie. She was so excited when she opened her gift.

Back To Work

I know I have not blogged in months. I've had major changes in my life and I finally found time to share them. As some of you may know I was doing daycare in my home for about 4 years. Last November (2009) I started having some painful symptoms that were sometimes unbearable. After a few MRI's and CT scans I got a diagnoses of Trigeminal Neuralgia. At the time this was happening I was taking care of 6 children including 1 specific little boy who screamed allllllll dayyyyyy. I got him when he was 6 months old and he was never weaned off the breast and never given a bottle. I could not get this child to drink a bottle to save my life. Long story short I ended up giving almost all my daycare parents a notice because the Neurologist suggested this all came from stress and I should change my profession. After starting medication (Tegretol for seizures) I have been in remission and have relapsed twice. I decided to go back in the medical field since I have 18 years experience.

I started working for a doctor 4 weeks ago and it has been really hard to get back in the work force. I was hired out of 90 applicants and was offered a management/assistant position. I love getting out of the house and conversing with adults again. On the other hand I had to put my little one in an after school daycare and I work late some nights. I would post a pic but I do NOT look good in scrubs!...haha!

This little guy is Jaden my daycare child. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old and he is now 2. Out of 6 daycare kids he is the only one left. I had to filter out my daycare due to stress that was caused by idiot parents who don't pay on time and show up late then proceed to sit on the couch and think you want to have a conversation with them when what you really want is for them to take there child home. I know that was a long sentence...I could have gone on and on...haha. Once I got rid of two parents another parent was laid off work....and I lost 2 more..a brother and sister. Now all I have is Jaden. He is just part of our family and we love him like our own. Actually, he looks more like me than my own kids...lol.

We had a great time on the 4th with family and friends. My cousin Stacy just bought a house around the corner from us and just had a pool built. The kids and Randy had a great time swimming. We came back home for fireworks. Our street has a small block party so I made smores and enjoyed the fireworks.

Its that time of year again when our baseball season ends....BUT WAIT!!!.....Adam made the Allstar team!!! We had no idea he was going to make the team. Since he took a year off from baseball he was considered the "new player" on the team. He did a great job this year and I am very proud of him. He is on a great team this year. They placed 3rd in the City Tournament and played 5 days straight until they lost to the team who were tall and had mustaches. My husband said they looked way older than 12....and I agree....they had mustaches! They were the only remaining team from his league. He recieved two medals this year and the honors of being drafted to the Allstar team.

This Memorial Day weekend we did nothing....nada.....zilch....zero. We had a very relaxing weekend..except for the part when I scrubed tile grout with a brush. Anyway, Saturday afternoon we had mexican food for lunch..I know not very Memorialish but it was easy and we BBQ'd later that evening.

We had Sam's dance recital on Saturday. This is her 3rd year in dance and she just loves it. My good friend Trisha teaches the dance class and puts together a great show. She designs and choreographs everything herself.....she is amazing!!! Every year the girls learn 3 dances. I am always impressed that my little Sam can remember 3 different dances. This years theme was Back to the Future with the Power of Love. The girls did dances to songs from the 1920's through the 1990's. This is the third year I have helped backstage with costumes. I have not yet sat and watched the recital but I love being backstage. Getting to see all the costumes come together and all the little girls dressed up. Randy records the recital and I watch it as soon as we get home. All the girls get all gussied up with makeup and curled hair. All except my Sam....she did not want to curl her hair...ugh!!!! Oh well, she did let me put a little makeup on. My best friend since 4th grade got married on May 1, 2010. She got married at the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, Nevada. It was our first time to Henderson. Randy and I really enjoyed it. He is now talking about moving there. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express because Tina's dad gets a discounted rate. We need to save money any way we can. The kids loved their suite. After the wedding (which ended about 4pm) we took the kids to the strip to see the real Vegas. They were fascinated with the lights. We took them to Circus Circus and it was totally disgusting. I think my husband was trying to live he childhood again. I don't think anyone had cleaned this place since my husband was there last. Maybe it was just me but it just seemed dirty to me.....it doesn't help that the people there were also dirty. At least the kids did not notice it. They were too busy playing games.

My son is one of the biggest Dodger fans ever. This year in baseball he was drafted to the Yankees. I think he was shocked at first but then got over it really fast. They have a really good team and they got really cool jackets with their names on them.

This is Sam's third year in dance class. She has really come out of her shell and is excited for her next recital in May. She dances with some really sweet girls and has the best teacher in the world....my friend Trisha. Thank you Trisha for all your hard work!!!

Beauty Products

Today on Kelly's Korner she is having us share our favorite beauty products. I thought I would share a few that I HAVE to use daily.

I came across this product at Target and I just love it. It is only about $7.00 and works just as well if not the same as M.A.C. It is a foundation primer and it makes your face so smooth and soft before applying your foundation.

Next is M.A.C. paints. I use this as an eyeshadow base. I get really oily eyelids and my old co-worker recommended this product and it works wonders. I just buy a light shade to wear under my shadow. My daughter wears a darker shade just as a shadow by itself.

To wash all the makeup off I use Cetaphil Skin Cleaner. I used to work for a dermatologist and it is what he recommended all his patients. I have been using it for years.

This is my favorite hairspray by Bed Head called Hard Head. I have been using it for a while now. I was using Big Sexy Hair, which I also love but this seemed to hold my flat hair a little better.

After a long day with the kids I use Ivory Body Wash in my hot bath. I get it at Target for under $4.00. It has a great scent and produces alot of bubbles. I think lavender is my favorite.

I almost forgot one of my favs. I use to use Lamcome's liquid eyeliner but then I became a stay at home mom and decided to stop spending so much on a simple eyeliner. I found this Loreal eyeliner and now it is all I wear. It has a felt pen like tip so it is easy to apply. I have it in brown and black.

Student of the Month

My little baby got student of the month. I am so excited for her because she has worked so hard. She is the youngest in the class and seems to struggle a little more than the others. She just missed the cut off date for kindergarten by 4 days or so. She did really well in Kindergarten but then started to struggle. When all of her friends are turning 8 she is just turning 7. She is also the smallest and I think she gets discouraged. Her teacher said some very nice things about her and seems to really proud of her...but not as proud as me! Also, I was pouring rain this day. Thats why my hair looks like a wet rat and same has her hood on in one pic.

My son loves basketball...I mean LOVES. Randy took the kids to the park the other day and Adam just joins in on a game of basketball. When they came home Randy was so impressed with Adam's playing skills. He said Adam looked like Woody Harrelson in White Men Can't Jump with his backwards hat and his skateboard shoes. Adam has no fear of asking to join in with the adults to play ball. Maybe this is his calling...I just hope he grows to be really tall. If not were sticking with baseball.

My family celebrates Christmas Eve at my house. This year was the first year my brother was by himself for Christmas Eve since the divorce and I tried to make it extra special for him and keep his spirit up. Every year my Dad takes the family to Disneyland. It was our first time seeing Disneyland decorated for Christmas and I loved it. The only problem was the people!!! I should say too many of them. When we first got there it was nice and empty. Then when it got dark it was crazy! A 45 minute wait for Its a Small World.....I have never waited that long for that ride. The kids loved seeing the snow fall.

My little baby turned 7!!! I am so sad about this. She is my last little baby and she is getting so big. I remember when I had her 6 weeks early and she was just a bitty little thing at 5 lbs. She had the fullest face that I just wanted to squeeze her cheeks. Her nickname now is Cheeky Girl or Cheeks. She is the entertainer of the family. She loves to dance and sing. I just love this little girl soooo much. She makes my day everyday.

This week at Kelly's Korner it is all about our pets. We have 2 dogs named Sadie and Cooper. Sadie is a 4 year old Black Lab and Cooper is a 5 year old fat Chihuahua. Cooper is super tempermental and is kinda like our house cat. He likes to sit on top of the couch curled up in a ball like a cat would do. He is not a yapper like some small dogs....he could really care less. Sadie on the other hand is not the brighest of Labs but she is a really good girl. She LOVES my husband. I always tell call her his girlfriend. She follows him all over the house and goes nuts when he gets home from work. I debate on getting another big dog for Sadie to play with because Cooper is not much of an active type dog and sometimes I feel Sadie needs a friend to run around with. I would love to her your opinions.

Happy Halloween 2009

I love Halloween!!! This year was so much different without my nephew and with sick kids. This is the first year my nephew Aidan and Sam did not spend Halloween together or take pics together. Aidan spent Halloween with his mother and Alan was here with my family and mom. We still had a good time. Sam was the lone trick or treater and did not have the courage she usually does without her partner Aidan. She still did a great job in getting all that candy. Adam was feeling better but stayed inside and helped with the passing out of the candy. He was no longer sick and was not contagious so I thought it was safe. Krystal had the Swine Flu and missed her Halloween parties and was not able to wear her costume she worked so hard on. I wanted to post a pic of her laying around sick but she would kill me because she looked pretty bad...hahaha.

Trunk or Treating

This year I attended "Trunk or Treating" with my good friends Trisha and Kristine. Every year the ward puts together a night of food, family and trunk or treating at the church. I was invited last year but was not able to make it. I am so glad I went this year because it was so much fun. I loved seeing all the costumes of the kids and the adults. Adam was not able to attend because he had the Swine Flu so Sam and I tagged along with Trisha and her family. We had a great time and I hope I get invited again next year. What a safe and fun way for the kids to trick or treat. I loved how everyone decorated their cars....some scary and some with the harvest theme like Trisha. You will not see me in any of these pictures because I looked terrible next to these beauties....hahaha...they always look great and put together. It was a bad hair night for me and I will not hurt your eyes with that..haha!

This years Halloween Daycare party was very small due to the flu bug going around. I had four kids this day and we did some crafts and took our annual Halloween pictures in their costumes. We had pumpkin shaped jello for snack and I made each child a goodie bag to take home. I hoping next year will be a little more exciting and everyone is well.

Today on Kelly's Korner she is having "Show us your life" fall decorations. I love this time of year. Halloween is my favorite!!!!! Last year I spent some time making my decorations. My favorites are the black crows in the branch and the skulls on the cake plate. I made my husband find the perfect branch and strip it then paint it black. It's not the easiest thing to store so it sits on top of my fridge in the garage all year and the birds are stored away. I'm really bummed about our outside decorations. We get major wind this time of year so you decorate at your own risk in this part of town. I do have a huge blow up pumpkin display but I have to wait until Halloween day to set that up.

L.A. County Fair 2009

We decided to go to the fair this year. We had not been since Sam was a year old. I'm not a big fan of the fair but Randy got free tickets so I gave in. The only thing I wanted to do was have a Pink's hotdog and see the racehorses. The kids had a good time on the rides but of course got upset when we ran out of tickets. The kids and I went on the ferris wheel and Adam got a little freaked out when it stopped and we were stuck at the top waiting for the people to get off on the bottom. I think my favorite part is sitting in the shade and people watching. I cannot believe the getups that people wear to the fair. By the end of the day we were all ready to go home.

I was really nervous for my son Adam to start school this year. First of all he was going to a new school...middle school. Secondly, he was going to start taking the bus which is always scary to me. Sam started 2nd grade and she was not nervous at all. I was really surprised at this because she is usually very timid. I think because she has been in the same school since kindergarten. She was very comfortable. I still have a hard time...she is my baby. A friend of mine from high school is now Adam's principal...small world. I know she will keep an eye on him for me.

So I turned 38 this year and Randy took me out for dinner and to see the band Old Californio at the Old Town Pub in Pasadena. The band has two of our friends in it and we had never seen them play. During dinner my two friends Kristy and Robin decided to crash in on my date night. If you know my husband at all you will understand how he does not ever take me on date nights. I was fine with them joining us. We had alot of fun. My friends talked my brother into joining us since he was home by himself. They left the pub early and Randy and I stayed until the end. We got home after 2am. Wow...that was late for this old lady!

Look no training wheels!!!!!!

I know this might seem late in age for some people but my 6 year old can now ride a bike without training wheels. This took so long because I do not have the bravest of girls. This is a big deal in our house because she is finally branching out. She was happy as can be with training wheels until she saw the little boy across the street riding his bike without training wheels. That really kicked it into gear because he is only 5!!!! This whole thing still makes me nervous...just being a mom.

My little boy is growing up.....he is now 11. What happened to that sweet little boy who dressed up as Bob the Builder for Halloween...hahaha! I have to say I just love this kid. He just loves his mom also. He always tells me that he will take care of me when he play professional baseball. We can only wish! We took him to his favorite hot wing joint and he was in heaven. I personally cannot eat meat of the bone so this whole thing just grosses me out. As you can see he just loved it. I did make him the cheesiest cake ever....he love Van Halen (the David Lee Roth years). This is all Randy's doing. Randy got him tickets to see the Atomic Punks which is a Van Halen cover band. They were playing at the House Of Blues. They were in the front row and had ringing ears for days. Adam got to sing with the band and they gave him a guitar pick.

Disneyland 2009

Randy and I took the kids to California Adventure and Disneyland. We had never been to California Adventure so I was excited to see it for the first time. I have to admit that I really enjoyed the Playhouse Disney live on stage....I knew all the songs.....maybe I should not admit that! hahaha We had a really good time. Sam went on the Matterhorn for the first time and loved it. Of course Randy was ready to go home early....I think we need to go later in the day or leave him home next time...hahaha!

Seaworld 2009

This is the first time the kids and I have been to Seaworld. Randy had gone years ago when he was about 6 or 7. I was so excited! We had a great time. It was a little overcast in the earlier part of the day and of course I felt the burn on my shoulders. I was so amazed on how smart these beautiful creatures are. Shamu is amazing!!!! We will be going back before the year ends for sure.

Fourth of July 2009

For the past couple of years Randy and I host 4th of July. Last year we had a party with Randy's band. This year it was mellow and quiet....just the way I like it. I don't mind a big party but this year I wanted it to be simple. I had my mother and brother over. We did the usual hot dogs, hamburgers and salads. We live on a small cul-de-sac and we have a (so called) block party. All of our neighbors are very nice. Next year I am determined to have a house with a pool. I will keep you updated.

Last Day of School

The last day of school is always bittersweet for me. I love that school is out but I also dread the long summer. It is always hard to have a daycare out of your home during the summer. My kids just don't understand why we are stuck at home. It is not easy trying to explain to a 6 year old that mommy does not have the patience to drag 6 extra kids with us. This year the kids only had 8 weeks off, which is just fine for me! Adam had a 5th grade promotion and Sam had father/daughter day at the end of the year.

Dance Recital

Sam just had her dance recital and I am so proud on how well she did. My good friend Trisha teaches the dance class and Sam's class learned three dances. Trisha is brillant when it comes to coreography and music choice. Oh and also Trisha makes all the costumes herself. Way to much talent there. Anyways...Sam did an outstanding job. This is the second year I have helped with the costumes back stage. It is very caotic and rushed but I love it. I don't get to see the performance until I watch it on video when I get home. This year I took a camera back stage and took photos of the girls getting in costume. I HAD some great shots. Notice I said HAD....when importing the pictures to my computer something went wrong and all the pictures were erased. I actually cried about this. So instead I took my camera to the photo shoot the next weekend and got some good shots.

Sam Is Tiger Cub Of The Week

So I am a little late in posting this but Sam was Tiger Cub of the week at school. This means you have a special week of sharing things about yourself with the class. She also had special duties in her class. She was so excited and waited all year for this. She had to color a poster about herself and all her favorite things. Her favorite part about Tiger Cub of the week was taking home "Roary" the school mascot. She slept with it, dressed it up and watched Dancing with the Stars with it. I shouldn't call Roary "it" but I'm not sure if it is a boy or girl. In actuality I do know who is under the costume for our school mascot and I know it is a girl...but I think you assume it is a boy because it is a tiger. It's our secret!!!! Sam has no idea who is in the costume....one day she will find out....and what a shock she will have.

Gymnastics

Sam started gymnastics a few weeks ago. The first session went great. The second session was way too crowded and very discouraging. The teacher decided to break the class up and that made a huge difference. There was only 10 girls instead of the 30 last week. She is doing good but we need to practice. She had a little accident on the balance beam but she was a trooper and got right back on (after she cried a little) and finished activity.

Dad's Route 66 Party

So today was my Dad's 60th birthday. We decided to have a Route 66 birthday party for him because he is going to travel Route 66 from beginning to end. He is leaving in June and we decided to make all his gifts Route 66 related. We all wore Route shirts. My stepmom Martha decided to buy hers and I made ours. Thanks to my dear friend Kristine, she made the patterns for me to iron-on. I made route 66 brownies since Martha was bringing the cake. It just so happened that the cake had and accident on route to my house. It was still edible. We had my dad's favorite pizza and lots of snacks. It turned out to be a good party.

This Easter was very quiet until the Laker game came on. The kids enjoyed dying Easter eggs the night before followed by a game of Disney Monopoly. This is Sam's favorite game. We had an Easter egg hunt and once again the kids were in summer clothes because we are in California!!! We gave up on the fancy Easter clothes years ago. The kids end up changing into shorts and t-shirts by noon.
